Global Forecast System. The operational numerical weather forecasting model run by NCEP. The GFS superceded the AVN and MRF models, on which it is largely based. Forecast data from the GFS is available out to 180 hours at full resolution and 16 days at a reduced resolution.
02:51 AEDT Strong winds have brought down trees and left homes without power as a significant weather system hit WA's west coast this morning. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) issued a severe weather warning this morning for a large chunk of the state including Perth, the Goldfields, Great Southern, parts of the Pilbara, Gascoyne and Central Wheat Belt districts. Perth experienced heavy rain while damaging winds blew trees onto the roofs of houses and cars in a pocket of the metropolitan area around Doubleview, Floreat and Wembley Downs.
