Sunday began with a great contrast in minimum temperatures. While the south of the country wakes up with temperatures below 10°C (indicated in dark blue on the map below), the northern half records a minimum temperature in the high 20s (in red on the map).

Telfer (WA), in the interior of Pilbara, recorded a minimum of 31.4°C in the early hours of the morning. It was the highest minimum temperature in the country today, almost 8°C above the average for November in the region. In kunanyi/Mount Wellington (Tas), the minimum recorded was just -0.8°C. Additionally, at higher points in Tasmania, in the highlands of Tasmania, there are signs of snow this morning.
These extreme conditions between the north and south occur because Heatwave conditions are spreading across the north of Western Australia, Northern Territory, and north-central Queensland. On the order hand, cooler southerly winds leave the beginning of Sunday with temperatures below average in Tasmania, Victoria, southeast South Australia, and southwest Western Australia.

Looking ahead, this difference is expected to continue with a severe heatwave persisting in the north of the country, not cooling below 30°C at night in some inland areas. Meanwhile, temperatures below 10°C are expected, especially in southeast New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory (including Canberra), Victoria, and Tasmania (including Hobart).
