Minor Flood Warning For The Ovens And King Rivers

FLOOD PEAK JUST BELOW MODERATE FLOOD LEVEL OCCURRING AT DOCKER ROAD BRIDGE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ON THE KING RIVER. FLOODING NO LONGER EXPECTED AT KING RIVER D/S LAKE WILLIAM HOVELL
MINOR FLOODING MAY EXTEND TO WANGARATTA PEAKING FROM THURSDAY EVENING ON THE OVENS RIVER.
Heavy rainfall across the King and Ovens rivers has caused river level rises. Moderate flooding is no longer likely along the King River at Docker Road Bridge Wednesday afternoon. The river level is near a peak below the moderate flood level Wednesday afternoon.
No significant rainfall is forecast during Wednesday and Thursday. Rainfall is forecast from the weekend and renewed river level rises are possible. Warnings will be updated as required.

King River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the King River.
The King River D/S Lake William Hovell peaked at 1.74 metres Tuesday evening, below the minor flood level (1.80 metres).
The King River D/S Lake William Hovell is expected to remain below the minor flood level.

The King River at Docker Rd Bridge is currently near a peak at 3.91 metres, above the minor flood level (3.70 metres) and below the moderate flood level (3.95 metres).
The King River at Docker Rd Bridge is likely to remain below the moderate flood level (3.95 m).

Ovens River downstream of Rocky Point:
Minor flooding may occur along the Ovens River downstream of Rocky Point around Wangaratta.
The Ovens River at Wangaratta is currently at 11.01 metres and slowly rising, below the minor flood level (11.90 metres).
The Ovens River at Wangaratta may peak near the minor flood level (11.90 m) from Thursday evening.

Flood Safety Advice:
SES advises that all community members should:
Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
Never allow children to play in floodwater,
Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain,
Keep well clear of fallen power lines
Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.}
